A Prayer for My Husband: Day 5

The Word of God says that the man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. (Proverbs 18:22) 🙏🏻

The next thirty days we will be spending in prayer for our husbands.

Each day will consist of the following:

  1. Scripture

  2. Meditating on the Word

  3. A Digging Deeper section with some reflection questions on the Scripture for the day.

  4. A Prayer for our husbands: one for those whose husbands proclaim Christ (blue words in the light pink background on the graphics) and one whose husbands are not in Christ (light pink words in the green background on the graphics.)

  5. A Challenge to help you with your marriage and prayer life in some manner. (I will give instructions.)

Here is day 5!

Past Trauma

As Christians, we understand that healing and forgiveness is found in Christ Jesus, or you would not be here praying for your husband now. As daughters of the Most High, we understand just how amazing of a God we serve. I don’t know why you are here doing this challenge. Maybe you just want to improve your marriage, and you know praying for him is the right thing to do. You just don’t know how. Perhaps, your marriage is in trouble, and you're praying for the Lord to restore what has been lost. I was there at one time, and He is the One who can!! 🙌

Maybe you are like me now. You realized that you were trying to fight for everything in your life with your husband’s mental and physical state, and you just need to take it all to the foot of the cross. As Megan told me, I am not fighting, I am handling the things in my life. Though I can’t see it now, the Lord has already won this battle.

We have a High Priest in Christ who understands what we are experiencing better than anyone, even on a human level. Hebrews 4:15 says that He was tempted just as we were, "...yet He still remained sinless." That just leaves me in awe. Jesus lived and died as a human (while still being fully God) and experienced emotions and suffering as we did.

So, let us remember that today, as we come before the throne in prayer for our husbands. We should have confidence in who God is in every circumstance!

Scripture

Hebrews 4:15-16

Come boldly before the throne of grace
Hebrews 4:15-16

Meditating on the Word

Think about the Scriptures today. Think about what Christ endured in His earthly ministry and on the cross. He can most certainly sympathize with our suffering, trials, and heartache. Write Hebrews 4:15-16 on an index card and set an alarm on your phone to reflect and pray on them throughout the day.

Digging Deeper

If you are inclined to dig deeper, here are some application questions.

  1. How does having Jesus as our great High Priest comfort you in your prayers for your husband?

  2. How does knowing Jesus was tempted and tested just as we are, yet remained sinless, influence your understanding of His empathetic nature and your own salvation?

  3. What steps can you take to have more sympathy towards your husband in order to reflect the love of Christ?

Prayer for My Husband Today

(For those whose husbands proclaim Christ)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You so much for my husband. Lord, I want to lift him up to You today and ask that You help him recognize and resolve any past trauma that may have negatively impacted his life. Lord, I ask for You

to remove that pain, and I ask for You to remove anything that's not of You. Lord, thank You for giving me the strength to continue to pray for my husband and his needs. Thank You and I love You.

In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Prayer, Option #2

(For those whose husbands are not in Christ)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You so much for my husband. Lord, I want to lift him up to You today and ask that You help him recognize and resolve any past trauma that may have negatively impacted his life. Lord, I ask for You to remove that pain, and I ask for You to remove anything that's not of You. Lord, thank You for giving me the strength to continue to pray for my husband and his salvation. Thank You for sending Your son to live a sinless life so that he may have the opportunity of salvation just as I do.

In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Challenge

Ask your husband to pray with you today, whether together or separately. I want to encourage you to ask him at some point. It is important that your husband knows you are praying for him. It really helps your husband to see the words that you are praying for him! (Firsthand experience!)
