A Prayer for My Husband: Day 3

The Word of God says that the man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. (Proverbs 18:22) The next thirty days we will be spending in prayer for our husbands and our marriages.

Each day will consist of the following:

  1. Scripture

  2. Meditating on the Word

  3. A Digging Deeper section with some reflection questions on the Scripture for the day.

  4. A Prayer for our husbands: one for those whose husbands proclaim Christ (blue words in the light pink background on the graphics) and one whose husbands are not in Christ (light pink words in the green background on the graphics.)

  5. A Challenge to help you with your marriage and prayer life in some manner. (I will give instructions.)

Here is day 3!

God is Our Strength

In Psalm 46, we see a picture of the city of Jerusalem. The psalmist uses a lot of imagery and metaphorical language, but the message is clear. God is mighty shelter from danger for His people and a “present” help in this verse means God “proves to be there.” He is not some far away deity, in which the Lord’s people have to wonder if He will aid or hear their cries. Regardless of the chaos going on around them, Yahweh, the Lord of the armies on heaven and earth will be there for His people.

The same is true for those of us who are in Christ Jesus. We do not have to wonder if God is there. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has revealed and affirmed who He is in the Gospel message. The Gospel message of Christ was the thing the saints of the Old Testament hoped for that we now have in Christ!

The Lord of hosts is our strength ladies. Psalm 46:11 says that God is a fortress for His people. Another word for this is “stronghold.” Psalm 9:9 says the Lord is a refuge, or stronghold in time of oppression or trouble. Ladies, what is YOUR stronghold today? Is it the Lord, your husband, or something else? You will have a stronghold or refuge. As an ambassador for Christ in your home, it is important you are drawing your strength from the correct source. With that in mind, here are your instructions for today!

Scripture

Psalm 46:10-11

Psalm 46:10-11 be still and know that I am God
Psalm 46:10-11

Meditating on the Word

Think about the Scriptures today. Ask the Lord to help you identify what strongholds you have in your own life. Is your stronghold the Lord, or is your stronghold something else? Write these verses on an index card if this will help remind you or set an alarm on your phone to reflect and pray on these things throughout the day.

Digging Deeper

If you are inclined to dig deeper, here are some application questions.

  1. According to Psalm 46:10, what should we, in principle, as God’s children know?

  2. How can you live in a way that reflects that the Lord is your fortress in your life to your husband?

  3. How can you encourage your husband to take refuge in the Lord when chaos is going on in the world around you?

Prayer for My Husband Today

(For those whose husbands proclaim Christ)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for my husband, who puts in the hard work of growth and effort into himself and our marriage. Lord, today I want to lift my husband up to you. I pray my husband will turn to you when he needs the strength to continue on. I pray he finds refuge and importance in Your strength. I pray that he feels the magnitude of Your power.

Thank You for all You do. I love You.

In Your Heavenly Name I pray, amen.

Prayer, Option #2

(For those whose husbands are not in Christ)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for my husband who puts in the hard work of growth and effort into himself and our marriage. Lord, today I want to lift my husband up to you. I am asking that you place the desire in my husband to turn to You when he needs the strength to continue on.

May he begin to ask questions and experience the love and peace that only You truly provide. I pray he finds refuge and importance in You, Father. I pray that he feels the magnitude of Your power, so that in the right time, he comes to You for salvation Lord.

Thank You for all You do. I love You.

In Your Heavenly Name I pray, amen.

Challenge

Ask your husband to pray with you today, whether together or separately. I want to encourage you to ask him at some point. It is important that your husband knows you are praying for him. It really helps your husband to see the words that you are praying for him! (Firsthand experience!)
