A Prayer for My Husband: Day 4

The Word of God says that the man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. (Proverbs 18:22) The next thirty days we will be spending in prayer for our husbands and marriages.

Each day will consist of the following:

  1. Scripture

  2. Meditating on the Word

  3. A Digging Deeper section with some reflection questions on the Scripture for the day.

  4. A Prayer for our husbands: one for those whose husbands proclaims Christ (blue words in the light pink background on the graphics) and one whose husbands are not in Christ (light pink words in the green background on the graphics.)

  5. A Challenge to help you with your marriage and prayer life in some manner. (I will give instructions.)

Here is day 4!

Ears to Hear

In the gospels, Jesus used the phrase, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” What does this phrase mean? We all have ears, right? The reason Jesus used this phrase was to make a clear distinction between those who had been given “ears to hear” and those who persisted in unbelief—ever hearing, but never actually perceiving and “always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.” (2 Timothy 3:7). Because the disciples had accepted and heard the truth from Christ Himself, they were given more truth. The same is true for us today, just in a different manner. We now have the written Word of God. We also have the Holy Spirit who guides us in all truth.

John 16:13 states, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

In one sense, this was fulfilled when the New Testament writings, divinely inspired by God, were completed. (David Guzik)

However, we still have the Holy Spirit who continues to guide us to the saving truth of Christ Jesus.

Those who have “ears to hear” allow the Word to bear fruit to the glory of God. When the Word of God refers to “he who has ears,” it is referring to believers in Christ Jesus who have been given the Word of God.

Ephesians 4:32 states, “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” As ambassadors of Christ, we are to imitate God and His lovingkindness to our husbands.

Meditating on the Word

Think about the Scriptures today. Ask the Lord to help you identify what bitterness or anger you may be harboring towards your husband. Write these verses on an index card if this will help remind you or set an alarm on your phone to reflect and pray on these things throughout the day.

Digging Deeper

If you are inclined to dig deeper, here are some application questions.

  1. How can you encourage love and kindness in your home?

  2. What can you do the next time you feel anger towards your husband if you are prone to keeping it in? If you are prone to say things you shouldn’t, how can you better handle that?

  3. What steps can you take to be more compassionate and patient with your husband when he is having a difficult day?

Prayer for My Husband Today

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for blessing me with a husband who has so much patience with me, even when I don’t see it. Lord, I want to lift him up to You today and ask that You guide him. Give him eyes to see the truth in Your Word, ears to hear Your words, and compassion to understand those around him. I pray he finds comfort in his prayers to You, Father. Thank You, and I love You.

In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Prayer, Option #2

(For those whose husbands are not in Christ)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for blessing me with a husband who has so much patience for me, even when I don’t see it. Lord, I want to lift him up to You today and ask that You guide him. Give him eyes to see Your Truth in Your perfect timing. Give him the ears to hear Your words through me and compassion to understand those around him. I pray he sees You in me, Father, so that He may come to the saving knowledge of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You, and I love You.

In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Prayer for the Husband Not in Christ Day 4

Challenge

Ask your husband to pray with you today, whether together or separately. I want to encourage you to ask him at some point. It is important that your husband knows you are praying for him. It really helps your husband to see the words that you are praying for him! (Firsthand experience!)
