A Prayer For My Husband Day 7

The Word of God says that the man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. (Proverbs 18:22)

The next thirty days we will be spending in prayer for our husbands.

Each day will consist of the following:

  1. Scripture

  2. Meditating on the Word

  3. A Digging Deeper section with some reflection questions on the Scripture

  4. A Prayer for our husbands: one for those whose husbands proclaim Christ

  5. A Challenge to help you with your marriage and prayer life in some manner.

Here is day 7!

Effort

Our marriage is the very last place selfishness belongs because God designed the institution of marriage to be an actual picture of the Gospel. Unfortunately, many times, even without realizing it, this is the first place our selfishness will manifest itself. Then, we look at our husband and do not understand why he is hurt by our words or actions.

As I said yesterday, everything we do should be to glorify the Lord regardless of our husband’s words and/or actions. Yet, the world will tell us the complete opposite, i.e. what makes us feel better or furthers our own agenda.

James 3:16 says that where selfishness and strife exist, there will be confusion and evil works. (Not maybe or sometimes-will). James goes on in verse 17 and states that wisdom from above is “first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”

Meditating on the Word

Think about the Scriptures today. Ask the Lord to help you identify sources in your life you in which you may be gleaning impure wisdom from. Write these verses on an index card if this will help remind you or set an alarm on your phone to reflect and pray on these things throughout the day.

Digging Deeper

If you are inclined to dig deeper, here are some application questions.

  1. How does the wisdom from above lead to peace and righteousness according to James 3:18?

  2. Can you think of one instance in the past week where you have: been selfish towards your husband? Can you think of an instance in which you have treated others, whether a stranger in public, your child, or a friend, BETTER than your own husband?

  3. How can the teaching from James on wisdom be applied to resolve conflict in your marriage?

Prayer for My Husband Today

(For Those Whose Husbands Proclaim Christ)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for bringing my husband to me. Thank you for gifting me with his love, even when I don’t see it or feel it. Lord, today I am asking for You to guide my husband as he puts forth the effort to grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. Lord, I ask that You multiply the effort my husband and I put into You, ourselves, and children and others are able to see You through our marriage. Help us increase in wisdom from above Father. Thank you and I love You.

In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Prayer, Option #2

(For those whose husbands are not in Christ)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for bringing my husband to me. Thank you for gifting me with his love, even when I don’t see it or feel it. Lord, today I am asking for You to guide my husband as he puts forth the effort to grow. Lord, I ask that You multiply my own efforts to grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. Help me to cultivate fruits of righteousness so that my husband may come to the saving knowledge of Christ Jesus. Thank you and I love You.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Challenge

Ask your husband to pray with you today, whether together or separately. I want to encourage you to ask him at some point. It is important that your husband knows you are praying for him. It really helps your husband to see the words that you are praying for him. (Firsthand experience!)
