A Prayer for My Husband Day 19

In case you are new here, below you will find:

  1. Scripture - this is the Scripture assigned for the day

  2. Meditating on the Word section

  3. Digging Deeper section with some reflection (optional)

  4. A Prayer for our husbands: one for those whose husbands proclaims Christ and one for those whose husbands do not.

  5. A Challenge to help you with your marriage and prayer life in some manner.

God's Will and Protection

The psalter in Psalm 91 ends his psalm with, “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

“There are blessings that some believers miss out on, simply because they are always fretting and do not trust God as they should. Here the psalmist quotes God as saying that the blessings are for those who love God and acknowledge his name (verse 14), call upon him (verse 15), and seek satisfaction in what he alone can provide.” (Boice)

When it comes to prayer and protection of ourselves and our loved ones, we tend to have an idea in our minds of how God should do this or certain expectations. However, this is not what Scripture teaches. In fact, it is contrary to what the Word of God teaches. Our prayer lives should be in agreement with God's will for our lives. We tend to call the Lord's prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) a model prayer, but I would suggest that Matthew 26:39 might be a bit closer:

And He went a little further, and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Here, we see Christ on His face before God. According to John Gill, Christ "fell on His face, and prayed; partly to show His great reverence of God, the sword of whose justice was awaked against Him, the terrors of whose law were set in array before Him, and whose wrath was pouring down upon Him; and partly to signify how much His soul was depressed, how low He was brought, and in what distress and anguish of spirit he was, that He was not able to lift up His head, and look up."

Remember, Jesus knew what He was going to endure. Yet, His human nature was in sorrow and saw the wrath of God coming for Himself. "If it be possible" would suggest that Jesus knew it was a possibility to avoid this, yet He chose the Father's will instead. Titus 2:14 says that Christ "...gave himself for us to redeem us..." We know He repeatedly spoke of His future crucifixion. Yet, Jesus chose to go to Jerusalem knowing He would be slain there. (Matthew 20:17-18)

So, my question for us both today, is do we truly trust God? Are we bringing our will into alignment with His, knowing that God's will is perfect?

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20-21

If we have confidence in our salvation and eternal security, how much more confidence should we have when praying to God the Father?

Scripture

A prayer for my husband
1 John 5:13-15

Meditating on the Word

Think about the Scriptures today. Ask the Lord to help you identify areas in my own life in which I am not walking in His will or simply not trusting Him with.  Write this verse on an index card if this will help to remind you or set an alarm on your phone to reflect and pray on these things throughout the day.

Digging Deeper

If you are inclined to dig deeper, here are some application questions based on the Scripture for today.

  1. Take a few minutes to read 1 John 5. How can you use the lessons this passage to strengthen your faith and deepen your relationship with God? Your prayer life?

  2. How can we discern the will of God when making requests in prayer?

  3. Read 1 Corinthians 10:31. How does glorifying God in all that you do help you live out the will of God?

Prayer for My Husband Today

(For those whose husbands proclaim Christ)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You so much for my husband and his generosity and love for me. Lord, I want to lift up my husband to You today and ask that You guide him in a direction to find Godly fellowship with other men.  Lord, I pray that You touch his heart, and You

grow his circle, with current friends and other men You choose to bring into his life. Help him learn what it means to walk in Your will so that he may glorify You Father. Help me continue to be a living sacrifice so that he sees me as Your ambassador. Thank You and I love You.

In Your heavenly name I pray, amen.

Day 20 of 30 Prayer Challenge for wives

Challenge

Ask your husband to pray with you today, whether together or separately. I want to encourage you to ask him at some point. It is important that your husband knows you are praying for him. It really helps your husband to see the words that you are praying for him. (Firsthand experience!)
