Day 26 of 30: Prayer Challenge for Wives

In case you are new here, below you will find:

  1. Scripture - this is the Scripture assigned for the day

  2. Meditating on the Word section

  3. Digging Deeper section with some reflection (optional)

  4. A Prayer for our husbands: one for those whose husbands proclaims Christ and one for those whose husbands do not.

  5. A Challenge to help you with your marriage and prayer life in some manner.

Keeping Our Focus On Christ

Most of us know the story of Peter walking on the water towards Christ. Peter walked on the water towards Jesus fine until he got fearful and distracted by the wind. Peter shows us the true weakness of human doubt, fear, and distraction.

“Doubt is literally ‘be divided in two’; true faith is single-mindedly focused on Jesus.” (France)

Remember, the disciples had JUST seen the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. When Peter saw Jesus on the water, he said, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water!" The Word of God says the disciples were fearful and thought Jesus was a ghost. Just like the disciples that day, we often ask the Lord to help with the storms in our own lives and then fail to see Him in the midst of it.. Just as the disciples failed to recognize Jesus at first, we often fail to recognize the Lord's work in our own issues.

Many times, this is because we have done what Peter did. Our focus is taken off Christ. We get distracted and put our focus on our circumstances instead of keeping our eyes on Christ. Then, we cry out for help again, thinking the Lord left our sides when it was really us who failed to see Him in our circumstances all along.

Scripture

Meditating on the Word

Think about the Scriptures today. Ask the Lord to help you see help you keep your focus on what He did for You on the cross instead of what your husband is not doing. Write this verse on an index card if this will help to remind you or set an alarm on your phone to reflect and pray on these things throughout the day.

Digging Deeper

If you are inclined to dig deeper, here are some application questions based on the Scripture for today.

  1. According to Colossians 3:1, believers have been resurrected spiritually with Christ. Christ now sits to the right hand of the Father in Heaven. 1 Peter 3:22 also tells us that angels, authorities, and powers are subject to Christ. How does this comfort you in your prayer life regarding your marriage and anything else?

  2. Paul instructs believers in verse 2 to set their minds on things above and not on things of this world. What can you do to put your focus back on Christ the next time you are tempted to focus on all of the things your husband is doing wrong?

  3. What things does Philippians 4:8 say to think on?

Prayer for My Husband Today

(For those whose husbands proclaims Christ)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for blessing me with my husband. Lord, I put my prayer focus on him, lifting him up to You God. Lord, remind my husband and me that during the storms, as well as the good times that we need to focus on You. I ask that You teach us ways that help us keep our focus on things above and of You. Lord, please deliver us so that we do not stray from You. I pray that You help us focus on Your love for us. Lord, guide us to be what we are supposed to be and to be the light to others, especially our children. Let us teach our children to focus on You God. Help us be loving and gracious parents to our children just as You are to all of Your children. Thank You and I love You.

In Your heavenly name I pray, amen.

Challenge

Ask your husband to pray with you today, whether together or separately. I want to encourage you to ask him at some point. It is important that your husband knows you are praying for him. It really helps your husband to see the words that you are praying for him. (Firsthand experience!)
