A Prayer for our husbands: one for those whose husbands proclaims Christ and one for those whose husbands do not.
A Challenge to help you with your marriage and prayer life in some manner.
Compassion
In Romans 12:9-21, Paul instructs the church of Rome on how to live as Christians. As daughters of the King, we are called to these same standards. In this passage, Paul speaks about blessing those who persecute and not cursing them, rejoicing with those who rejoice, mourning with those who mourn, living in harmony, and not repaying evil for evil. He takes it a step further and says the believer in Rome should not avenge themselves, but instead leave it to God. When it comes to compassion, we are called to a higher standard...God's standard.
In the gospels, Jesus Christ not only taught compassion but modeled it as well. In Matthew 9:35-38, we see part of an account in which Christ still continued about His Father's business even though He had just been heavily criticized by the Pharisees. It says that He was moved with compassion for the crowds. "The word which is used for moved with compassion is the strongest word for pity in the Greek language...it describes the compassion which moves a man to the deepest depths of his being." (Barclay)
Christ saw the great need for the kingdom of Godin this crowd. In verse 35, it says that He went throughout all the cities and villages there teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel, and healing every disease and affliction. Even after the intense scrutiny and criticism of the pharisees, Christ still went about the mission of God.
i want to ask, do we have this same mindset? When we are treated horribly by the world, do we take it home to our husbands? In other words, do we in turn treat him badly, even unintentionally? I just want to remind you today, your ministry starts in your home. We should always do what we can to have compassion, love, and respect for our husbands regardless of how anyone else treats us.
Scripture

Meditating on the Word
Think about the Scriptures today. Ask God to help you learn to familiarize with your husband instead of getting angry. Write this verse on an index card if this will help to remind you or set an alarm on your phone to reflect and pray on these things throughout the day.
Digging Deeper
If you are inclined to dig deeper, here are some application questions based on the Scripture for today.
How does the chapter's ending, with Jesus' call for workers in the harvest, apply to your life?
How can Jesus' compassion for the spiritually lost affect your approach to challenges you encounter in your marriage?
As Christians, we are called to overcome evil or affliction with good and to mourn with those who mourn. Think of a recent incident in your marriage where you got angry with your husband. What could you have done to show him compassion instead?
Prayer for My Husband Today
(For those whose husbands proclaims Christ)
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for blessing me with my husband who shows me compassion, even when I don't see or feel it. Lord, I want to lift my husband up to You today and ask for Your compassion towards him. I ask for You to guide him in the way of knowing the importance of how compassion can build or destroy a relationship. Lord, please teach us both how to have compassion like Christ for all those around us, all of those who we have relationships with, and all of those who we do not have relationships with. Lord, I ask for you to help our hearts find more compassion in all that we say and do. Thank You for loving us.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Prayer, Option #2
(For those whose husbands are not in Christ)
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for blessing me with my husband who shows me compassion, even when I don't see or feel it. Lord, I want to lift my husband up to You today and ask for Your compassion towards him Lord. Please teach me how to have compassion like Christ for all those around me so that I may point them to You. Lord, I ask for You to help me find more compassion in all that I say and do. Thank You for loving us.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Challenge
Ask your husband to pray with you today, whether together or separately. I want to encourage you to ask him at some point. It is important that your husband knows you are praying for him. It really helps your husband to see the words that you are praying for him. (Firsthand experience!)
